Sometimes we think the hardest part about having pictures taken, is trying to find outfits and decide on what to wear!! You want to LOVE the outfits, because these are photos that you are sending in announcements, probably using to decorate and display at your reception, and you might even have them printed to hang on your walls. Not only do you want to love the outfits you choose for the purpose of your images being displayed, but you also want to feel confident and happy at your session. The worst thing is to be tugging and lifting, adjusting, and twisting throughout your entire engagement session. This is a time meant to be enjoyed not dreaded! With all of that in mind, we are going to start a series of a few different tips and tricks to helping your plan your engagement session outfits!
For your engagement session, ask your photographer if you can have 2 outfits. That would make it so you can go for more of a dressy look and a more relaxed and casual look. When we say dressy, that doesn’t mean you have to be in a tuxedo, but it allows you the opportunity to wear a dress, tulle skirt, or something else that makes you feel a little bit more dressed up than an everyday outfit. In your dress outfit, make sure that your “level” of dressiness matches. For example, don’t come dressed in a little black dress, heels, and a statement necklace while your fiancé wears cargo shorts and flip flops. One last little tip for being in a dressy outfit- if it doesn’t feel like you, don’t wear it! Make sure you feel like you in your images. You do not want to look over your images asking yourself why you wore a particular outfit when you never wear anything like that. If you don’t like the idea of a dressy outfit, don’t do it!!
Here are a few tips that we will be sharing with each engagement session tips post-
Make sure your finger and toenails are freshly painted or clean from all polish. Nothing is worse than chipped polish ruining the look of a pulled together image!
Have your ring cleaned prior to your session if you can. Your photographer might be taking ring shots while you change or even just on your finger. You want to make sure it is full of sparkle!
Leave yourself plenty of time to get ready. Remember this is a time to be enjoyed and not stressed about. Don’t make yourself rush!
Think about your locations when picking your outfits. Make sure that the colors you are wearing won’t clash or blend into the background!
Consider hiring a makeup artist for your makeup or be sure to wear false lashes for your pictures. They give yours eyes a needed little pop!
